This May, Unlock, the canal-side pizza restaurant, cocktail bar and art collective space set in Hackney Wick, will welcome its second artist in residence, Sicilian illustrator Jess Ardizzone with her exhibition ‘Balcone Mediterraneo’.

With its rotating exhibitions changing every three months, Unlock serves as a hub for fostering connections within the local community and providing a platform for emerging artists, showcasing talents from both Italy and the local Hackney area.
Unlock will kick off Jess’s residency on the 7th of May with a Sicilian-inspired evening of art and food. Head Chef Emanuele Esposito has collaborated with Sicilian chef Island of Food to create a menu inspired by Ardizzone’s art and Italian roots. Available for one night only, the set menu will feature Sicilian-inspired dishes that pay homage to the rich heritage of the island. The evening will begin with Montanarina alla Norma and Caponata con rianata Trapanese. Guests can enjoy interesting dishes such as the ‘Balcone Mediterraneo’ pizza with Provola, pesto Trapanese, chips di melanzana and fonduta di pecorino pepato. The sweet finale will offer a choice of traditional Cannoli with pistachios or chocolate, accompanied by the refreshing Orange Moon ‘Good Night Bite’ — Sicilian candied oranges dipped in dark chocolate. A carefully selected range of Sicilian wines will be available for pairing, offering a taste of the region’s renowned viticulture from Sciacca.
