Unlock presents FEMALE UNLOCKED:
A new exhibition by artist Catherine Amakars

Unlock, the east London pizza restaurant and creative space has announced an exclusive artistic collaboration: FEMALE UNLOCKED featuring the works of contemporary artist Catherine Amakars, launching on 26 September.

FEMALE UNLOCKED delves into the themes of feminine strength and beauty through Amakars’ deeply personal and spiritual exploration of the female body. Her work examines the interplay of traditional iconography and the female form, evoking a sacred space where women’s resilience and power take centre stage.

In this exhibition, Amakars’ abstract depictions of the body challenge historical perceptions of womanhood, using religious contexts as a lens to interrogate societal dogmas. With a distinctive figurative approach, she incorporates materials such as rope, adding both abstraction and ambiguity to her paintings. The resulting works are both bold and textured, creating a space where viewers are invited to engage with the decorative symbolism and decide their own interpretations.
